On IIT's Professors hunger strike for salary hike

Is this justified for Professors to do hunger strikes when they are supposed to be teaching students... especially in this economic downturn.. most of us comes from financially struggling families and worked hard.. how about the sons and daughters of small farmers or shopkeepers or single parents or no parents (orphans).. don't they have any right to get educated. India still can not provide the adequate education to every child.. a systematic failure of democracy .. no wonder we are ruled by a 'special family'. probably India's caste based culture is now converted to family based culture and everyone is ready to snatch others kids' bread to buy new toys for his or her kid. Comparing the professors with highly earned politicians is shame of their hard earned education. I am not sure if IITs are getting money from GOI to run the institutions every fiscal year. If answer is 'no' and the institutions can easily generate enough revenue to meet the expenses, autonomy makes perfect sense. Autonomy implies 'don't bother each other'. Hunger strike sounds OK for a crime victim or 'blue collared labor union' as a desperate attempt to be listened. Mahatma Gandhi did it when we did not have our Government. Now though incompetent, but we have one. Instead of doing hunger strikes, it will be better if these intellectuals come up with a business plan to be self sustainable. And I am sure that the professors or VC of these institutes can easily set an appointment with Ministry of Human Resource Development. For Ministry too, instead of pumping money to a few elite institutions, if a general Government fund can be formed and any new or expanding institute can get money from it. For the time, they are owed by Government, they are made to follow the GOI's conditions and affirmative actions (reservations). Ultimate goal should be to make all the institutions run as autonomous and financial suffice. They can generate multiple streams of earnings from consulting projects, fees and research funds.

Your Safety in Your Hand

This is what Indian Government should do- prepare a self defence squad in every school, religious place and road of the country. Since Government can not provide enough security to common people and all the police force is busy to protect our octogenarian leadership, people has to start protecting themselves and their loved ones. It is especially true now, when Israel and US has issued the warning to their citizens for not traveling to country. Ideally I am not a big fan of guns floating everywhere and oppose the relaxed gun laws in US. But it appears OK if there is none to protect you and hardly any response from 100 (Indian version of 911). Though there is still one problem - If guns are available in open market, most likely bad and rich people will be the first to buy (poor people need food and education for their kids- at least in India) and they can use it to exploit others. But learning self defense techniques is always good (especially for vulnerable people such as women and children) since it gives you confidence to tackle the problem and most of time active brain wins than guns.

A stupid idea from a stupid government

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/08/13/sex.or.tv/index.html

What else Indian politicians cum jerks can think. That's what they are doing from last 60 years and that's all they can do. They will not ask their special vote bank to reduce the numbers. They will try these gimmicks. Will they ever think that one possibility can be- Indian women having octuplets through in vitro (quack clinical trials of producing boys) or increase in teenage pregnancies. Still child marriages are not completely banished in minorities and rural areas. Indian Government itself is a comedy show on TV.

Seems like old man, father of 24 unknown kids, is more intelligent than Indian health minister.

On Indian Students' assaults in Australia

This is the stupidity on Indian students part too. Why are they paying such a high price to study in the universities where their lives are not secure (parents' unlimited access to money in world's most corrupt country has a role to play in this)? Random degrees from random universities can not secure you a good career. Leave the wild and inhuman country and invest in Indian schools and colleges to make 100 IITs every year. Make the separate institutions for SCs, STs and minorities instead of giving them sits without hard work to manage the quality of education (as is the case in US). Don't lower the standards but raise the ambitions.

Can slumdogs ever be made to stay in homes??

From last three days Sara Sidner, CNN's reporter from India, is showing the reports of slums demolition in Mumbai. Her stars of these news are our beloved slumdogs of Slumdog Millionaire. Why these child artists are still living in slums if their movies earned 386 million USD and won 8 Oscars? Why should Indian Government be held responsible and suppose to provide these people free land? They should ask money from Danny Boyle, producer and director of movie. I can not understand why the international media drag Indian Government especially if the slumdogs are from Indian minorities. Is this also fault of Indian Government that one of child actor's father try to sell her to a Saudi family.

And talking about the situations of minorities in USA. Since the access of easy money in USA was less last year, many Hispanic huntings took place same time. These hardworking people are being made to live in old pipes since they cannot rent apartments without photo IDs and SSN. Recently a report showed that many Hispanic women are sexually abused because of their visa status and lack of English knowledge. African American minority in US has higher percent of HIV incidents than people in African countries. Their houses in DC and Baltimore tell their stories. Many are passing lives on benches in public parks.

Sarah Sidner on behalf of CNN should recommend US Governments to open some slums in US major cities too.

Juvenile Devil

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/if-proven-juvenile-kasab-might-get-only-3-yrs-in-prison/450763/2

This is interesting!! I guess sometime Indian judiciary system goes far to save criminals. yes criminals. In a country of one billion people, common Indian lives have no value or at least less than a terrorist from Pakistan. Old Indian saying - Guest is God!!

Well, what if this guest comes with Machine guns and kill innocent people without any self protection? Gandhi's idealism of getting slap on both chick does not work here, since you can die only once (I am sure these devils will waste bullets on even dying human too). If Muslims allow to follow Sharia matrimonial laws, which include marriages at younger age than 18 years (In India, marriage laws are meant only for Hindus and registered marriages), they should not be considered as juvenile. And setting age on the basis of wisdom tooth sounds even more ridiculous- my 2 years younger sister got wisdom teeth before than I did.

Indian money in UBS

It is not about the money politicians have in UBS, but day to day corruption and ill treatment Indian citizens are facing in their homeland and other countries in the hands of Indian government officers(Indian embassies are mess).

Fourth generation of single family is ready to rule on India - Is that the democracy?? Second generation of Bush turned the decades of American success to disaster, what can we expect from the Nehru-Gandhi legacy. Their 'reservation on PM chair' will sustain till other 'jokers' will keep filling their accounts. I am still not able to understand how much money 70-80 years old men need who represent us worldwide. Why don't we get politicians with degrees from IITs and IIMs? This is the time when well educated and young people of country should take the lead, since our politicians, courts, police and election commission are failed. People should vote only for the candidates who have graduate degrees (from recognized universities), two or less than two kids and no criminal records. Won't it be great if we apply Pakistani model, but instead of keeping the army as a substitute of elected government, distinguished faculties of IITs and IIMs should replace the inefficient parliament?

Cuba and US Peace Process

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/08/cuba.travel/index.html

So GOP is telling us that we should don’t talk or do business with Cuba because of human rights violation in that country. But we have been buying oil from Middle Eastern Asian countries and making them super rich for years. So marrying 8 years old and punishing a rape victim and 75 years old is not a violation of human rights for GOP. Not to mention, American colony of Asia, called Pakistan, openly signs the deal with Taliban and let them prosecute people and attack neighboring countries. How we are showing our opposition? Giving them a gift of 7 billion dollars through bipartisan support. And what about China, the number one human right violating country. Since they know ‘own’ America and provide each and every possible products to satisfy mammoth American consumers so we have no option.

Religious Conversion: Shame to Human Society

The religious minorities in the world always struggle to maintain their original status gracefully. Especial targets of conversion games are the kids of immigrants, who are pushed so far that they start hating everything belong to their alternative identities, uncommon to their peers- different names, dresses, spices, foods and name of Gods. I am writing this to reflect my opinion on a murder case- a second generation Indian girl Ria Ramkisson, who is neo-converted to Christianity killed her son to abide her church minister. Another confusing and converted man who really irritates every Indian is Bobby Jindal. He does not believe in global warming but believes in Adam and Eve story (If god created especially Bobby's ancestors, why can't he create global warming to teach Bobby some lessons).

Churches' bipolarity can be seen in Western culture where 40% kids are born to unwed and teenage mothers. These people depict India as the place of child marriages, Sati and casteism. I can't understand how kids in schools of western world having sex are different than child marriages in Indian subcontinent. Sati has been abolished in India many years ago, but still used to describe the trait of Hindus. But have these churches ever tried to understand the psychology behind it. Widows of warriors and elites were being raped and kept as slaves by the Middle Eastern primitive creatures who still see women as sex machine. Was not sleeping with the killers of your husband worse than death? Probably not in the western world. And situation was drastically improved in British rule itself, since they were more color conscious than exploiting a woman. After the death of her husband,Rani Lakshmi Bai, fought with East India Company for Jhansi and she and her adopted son were killed by the brutal British army. Casteism - Still after 200 years of freedom in US, a black president is continuously under the threat of white supermacy groups. How much suppressed Hispanic and African American groups in US are, can be only seen once you are here. They are very good in hiding the poors in shelters, bought using whole world's money. And I am still waiting for a non-white Pope and queen of UK to say a really equal world. How is the Western or Middle Eastern king and queen system different from what Brahmins were teaching - the class pass through birth? reality is by pushing young kids to the places for what they are not meant for make them dual for rest of their lives. Proving himself or herself a Brahmin without heart into the studies or strict daily routine, is also a punishment, as being Shudra.

I oppose all of the social evils - but don't call them as Hindus traits, they are the dark side of human nature- full of greed and lust. It appears even most of Hindus do not know what Hinduism stands for and not able to teach their kids about the true 'Sanatna Dharma'. Also, first generation of immigrants suffer tough economic conditions and are not able to spend enough time with their kids. Unlike Muslim, Hindus are more open and let their kids mingle with others and learn new culture, but the situation should not be exploited by churches. If we includes Veda, Gita, Ramayana, Upnishads; we can also include Bible and Kuran? We can and that is the most unique features of Hindu religion. Instead of fighting like dogs (as is the case with Shias and Sunis) or making dozens of churches (Mormons, Protestants, Catholics, Evangelic and so on) on the same road, we put all the idols under same roof and let the people meet and greet under same roof. Learn to appreciate, only then you can recognize how unique and great you are. But obviously, the recognition of truth is not so obvious.

Various forms of Islam

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/04/04/afghanistan.womens.rights/index.html

It appears that Islam has got all the possible ways to exploit wome. Wahabbism (Sunni Muslims of UAE)allow ahipping 75 years old lady, rape victim and marrying a 8 years old girl to 47 years old men. Taliban's inspirational plan is to burn girls' school.

Election in India: What if Sonia is next PM? 'Vatican Rule'

What if a Vatican ‘Sonia Gandhi’ will win Indian election and start ruling on India? She will stop the selling of condoms, stem cell research and start teaching kids about Adam and Eves (creationism), similar to what Bush was trying in US.

AfPak: Pakistan Bailout

Once again, US tax money is devoted to Afpak plan. Same politicians, who were fighting over some millions for the art projects and job shifts to China and India, readily passed the bill of contributing $1.5 billion for Pakistan’s imaginary welfare. Obviously, US can't support each and every Pakistani for ever, ideally US should provide them jobs, and if that's the policy I would be much more happy on this plan. Anything that can keep Pakistanis far from terrorism and hatred feelings towards Indians particularly Hindus and Jews is good for whole world. My question is here- how much welfare has been done till now in Pakistan using American dollars- nukes, missiles, missiles defense and numerous militant organizations. Thanks to the ‘so called developed’ countries, South East Asia has become a nuke battle ground, ready to explode anytime. It is easy to sign up numerous defense deal and get the same money back in your economy, after debting it to charities. But, it is very hard to divert the direction- push it into targetted economy. Among the newly (in comparison to US)independent and diverse countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, India etc., political corruption and British strategy of ‘rule and divide’ is the norm. If US is contributing $1.5 billion, probably only development work of worth $1 million will be done and rest will feed middle men. How these middle men will handle the money? They will add it to their accounts in UBS, buy palaces in European and American big cities, move their family members and will give tithe to their mosques or religious organizations(The way Parvez Musharaf is spending his reward these days to stay outside of Pakistan). So probably all will get some part of it – US and EU, terrorist groups and Pakistani politicians. Pakistan chose its own density- to beg and feed itself. This lack of self esteem reflects when the government signed up deal with Taliban in Swat Valley.

On the other hand, India who got freedom at the same time and regardless of all the diversity of religions and races (if Max Muller was right) has achieved a lot for uplifting the weeks and poors (though have not distributed homes using others lifelong savings). The international religious hypocrisy and neighboring countries's ill will always created and still creates trouble in country’s growth, but people of India are continuously struggling in controlling the population and raising literacy percentages without licking the shoes of other countries' politicians. Indian government literally stopped hiring people of upper and middle castes, pushing them to be‘Educated generation of Indian vagrants’. And this Indian generation is helping the entire world to be technically advanced. You name the countries and you will get Indian people- Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, EU, Canada and many more. I guess rest of the world is trying to expand through wars, religions and businesses; Indian civilization is spreading through people. People who believes in Vasudhev kutumbkam (Whole world is family) and the only thing they want is right to live in harmony and peace with other humans, plants and animals.

Passion to thrive

A kid in an immigration rally speaks about the problem of his school. The school is firing teachers because of budget cuts during this recession. The passion of this kid for good education can proove all those citizens wrong who thinks that illegal workers and their kids are burden on the system.

In the morning, I was listening Kane's show on Hot 99.5(a talk show, where people ask him to call their loved ones for spying) and he was telling about how he helped a mother to track down her daughter's wild spring break, full of booze and boys. Kane recieved hate mails from listeners and fans for this spying act since, according to the listeners, it will spoil the relation between mother and daughter. These people have no problem when Kane do this in marital relationship. Similarly there are citizens who complained about the food stamps of $176 per month and donot stop on processed foods.

I am tired of listening people that immigrants will reduce the standards of American competitiveness. My question is who is here more competitive- a kid willing to go to school and stand against all the hurdles on his way, or a spoil brat for whom her color, language and country of birth may most likely reserve success, if defined only in terms of money. For whom this infrastructure should be used in ideal world- for a kid of an immigrant mother who wants to study or always complaining and going 'hi' citizen.

In the war of Islam and Christian's statistics, governments of poor nations are paying and native people are suffering.... It is not quantity but quality matters.. What is the use of such religion which can't educate young kids??? Was Bristol Palin, a single teenage mom not enough to stop Pope. And most populous contry India's newspaper is publishing on the front page. It's sad... and later the westerns will make 'slumdog millionaire'. India needs to adopt Chinese policy of one kid and impose it strictly.

A correspondence with Diana Furchtgott-Roth

Hi Diana

Thanks for your encouraging words.

It is sad that US is going away from globalization after starting it. Or probably there was no globalization but USization- where Mexicans will clean USA, Chinese will produce goods by risking their environment and health, India will work as support center. After earning in dimes, these people will spend money at McDonalds and Subway (luxurious food chains in these countries).

Recently, a Republican congressman from Iowa told Microsoft to fire H1, not the citizens. In Stimulus bill, finance companies which receive TARP money are told not to hire H1. H1 itself has basis in exploitation since employee is dependent on employer for each and every steps. Companies have to spend extra money for hiring internationals, so they, especially the small businesses, are reluctant to hire an international. Only big corporations are willing and can offer equal wages as a citizen will get.

I know many people who took loans of some thousand dollars and came to study here. If their road of getting job is blocked, it will be an emotional and financial disaster for them. And system not only needs Albert Einstein but also a janitor (unless citizens start taking responsibility). If a person, regardless of citizenship, is fired from his or her job more than two or three times and no mergers or major business operation shifts were going on, it implies he or she needs improvement or change in direction.

Most shameful part is – who started this mess? People who runs Wall Street (no immigrant can reach there easily). People who buys homes beyond their afford limit (no immigrant will even think of it). Being so insecure of future here, now no immigrant will buy an American dream home- even if he or she can afford it.

I hope that US politicians and public will understand it, because globalization is an irreversible process. Only Federal can pay 100$ per hour for the job which can be done elsewhere in the world for 20$ per
hour, not a private business or corporate.

Once again thanks for writing for us, since like DC we are here with ‘taxation without representation’.
Thanks

Broken Legal Immigration

I guess US needs more people from Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan and other radical countries. Green cards are distributed to these peoples like hot cakes. US don't need Indians and Chinese anymore, And on the other side….Skilled people are also getting more opportunities back home and in other countries. So it is the time to even out. Living in Canada, with no threats of H1 expiration and unnecessary taxes, is far better than in US, and especially with US degrees. H1 holders are feeding your social securities and medical plans and they have to leave this country immediately after loosing jobs. It is so stupid that the most brilliant people with Masters and PhDs are stopped to participate in any country's growth and political system. Since they are no longer residents of their countries of birth and are waiting 20 years to be US citizens. What to do- be a slave of IT companies or Wall street. A few of us goes to earn million dollars since it is not the money but good and safe living what brought us here. Our priority includes bringing up our kids in safe, comfortable and full of love environment, not to roam alone in a million dollar home. You will get more of European and Middle Eastern people as billionaires.

Every year my country of birth gives citizenship to millions of people from Bangladesh and Tibet, entered illegally and regardless of the country's population of 1 billion. They are allowed to do whatever they want - follow Sharia rules, have multiple wives, lots of kids, follow their religions and be part of next generation of 'Slumdogs'. I guess now Indian government should sign a deal with Virgin Airlines and pick them from the borders to bring to US- so that they can get their Greencards. Do you even recognize Tibet as a country?? Probably not, since modern US is now 'Made in China' and bought houses on the savings of hardworking people all around the world.

People link immigration with Carbon Emission. It is not the each and every country's individual emission at the day end what counts. And most of the educated people have only 1 or 2 kids and we make sure that our kids will get higher education to influence thousands of other lives. Surely an American has larger carbon Footprint than an African. But at the day end counts also matter and your companies are selling same life style, you have here. Every year 1000s of shopping malls are opening in India and still growth is lower than China's. Stop funding the churches and mosques, which are working in Asia and Africa to raise their 'religious statistics' through propaganda against family control. Better use this money to provide adequate facilities to single and young moms and their kids here. Also stop funding terrorism and nuclear bombs in Asia and Africa, better save this money to pay unemployment benefits when all the jobs will be outsourced or to gift homes to reckless parents of 14 kids.

Some are talking about the Indian contractors and H1 exploitation. Who run these companies?? Probably some brown and white Americans, to open a business it requires Green card. So no H1 is running these companies. And for sure, these companies have some projects or sources of income. It might be possible that these companies are working on the contracts of Federal or other states' agencies. They can easily work under the big consulting firms who have strong lobby base in government and can easily get the projects. After all the overhead and salaries of top officials obviously these H1 are compeled to work on half the money, an American counterpart will get. First Americans designed the schemes to exploit immigrants and later accused them for 'being exploited'. These H1 are opening the path of growth in the most backward states, still struggling to rise above their images of KKK and racial crimes. H1 has its base in the exploitation of people whether they are educated here or coming directly from India or China.

People are unnecessary crying for the lowering wages. Hello!! writing a webpage in HTML, any high school student can do. And above all, most of the people who are fired in the initial rounds, are usually the ones who stopped growing. Companies can't keep paying on the basis of what you did some years ago, they put the money in 401K then for you to use now. Being fired from jobs with similar skills again and again unless there are no big mergers or outsourcing going on, itself shows that there needs some serious improvement or change in the direction. Some are telling that people are coming on fake resumes etc. CIA works in all the possible countries and has news of every terrorist attacks beforehand, can't they get Department of Homeland Security a list of recognized universities worldwide. Rather this is an opportunity to standardize the universities and education system worldwide.

Thanks to US for setting up the quality work ethics and letting us to learn it through your best education system. Now we will bring whole world equal to yours.
Another great news- now your campuses are going global. Many universities are opening campuses in Middle Eastern countries and other Asian countries, though I am not a fan of living in Islamic countries.

What went wrong?? Obama's Budget

It seems that none is happy from stimulus plan. Regardless of the fact that everyone wrote it. Obama spent significant time in making the consensus among both parties and establishing bipartisanship in Capitol Hill. But appears, people there, don't get it. Most of the representatives showed their creativity and adds their point of views or pork for others in this joint effort. Now everyone is blaming other side. Will these people ever stop autopsy process and move forward??

Republicans do not get the environmental concerns. They think that God will clean the environment with magic wand and soldiers will keep fighting forever. They do not like spending money on Arts. The fact is that there are more American students graduating in Arts, every year, than any other discipline. So do they want - all of them to sit at home?? They do not like spending money on sex education. If Sarah Palin, regardless being a conservative, can not convince her daughter for abstinence in Alaska, how can common people run behind their kids all the time in cities like in NYC or LA??

This recession is caused by the negligence of both Democrats and Republicans. So stop criticizing and work because people are paying for you too as they paid recently for AIG and other Wall Street giants.

Slow Economy and Immigration Reforms

US is inviting people from radical countries like Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan and giving citizenships as compensation for the ongoing wars and struggle. In this country 2-3 million people are getting citizenship every year just by marrying US citizens, I am sure a big ponzy scheme is working here too. On the other hand, for all the countries H1 cap of skilled labor is fixed to 65000. H1 has been causing the exploitation of legal immigrants by both employers and government.

Worst is in stimulus plan, government has compelled companies recieving TARP money, for not hiring H1 visa people. Probably a beginning of US socialism, but even if all the kids are forced to study science and mathematics today regardless of their natural inclination,it will take 10-20 years for a generation of Engineers or Doctors to prepare.

Current problem is a wave in US economy creates tsunami in other economies, so this recession has reduced the opportunities worldwide for the skilled labor. Also, this is the high time for US to offer innovation and technology as its main business not the scams and frauds to make fool of people all around the world, so US needs educated people.

Immigrants' pain

Recently, immigrants are being targeted by the people and politicians. Republicans are telling the companies to fire first H1 holders than citizens. I don't want any mercy for a low performer, but loosing job is a complete devastation for H1 holders. And here it is not about the contactors, but full time employees. They have to leave the country within the severance period of their lost job or else get new job (In this market- who is hiring?). They don't recieve any social security benefit, even though they are paying for it. Many of our friends have to sell their houses and go back in this bad economy for the similar reasons.

Going back to India is an option, but the political scenario in that country is still as creepy as it was years ago (Actually that's the same group of octogenarian people, who are still saving money in UBS accounts for their future). Aren’t one billion people for that tiny country too much? But there is no firm policy to control population because discussing population itself is a taboo for some religions groups. US citizens will tell us to go back and improve the situation over there, but I am convinced, I can't do it in my lifetime.

Sharia Law of "Tit or Tat"

CNN reporter Octavia Nasr is very passionately defending the Sharia law of 'Tit for Tat' for a particular case. So why the whole media creates hype when terrorists are kept in Gitmo or treated indifferently. What else the people deserve who behead professinals, shot 20+ bullets to reporters, burn schools, sell drugs and don't let people of other religion live peacefully.

Six + Eight

An unemployed and single woman with six kids, who lives with her parents, gave birth to Octuplet. The ages of older kids vary from 7 to 2. It is simply pinnacle of irresponsibility and outrageous. How can anyone play with innocent lives?? Family and financial support are the fundamentals, humans provide to their kids. If we are talking about dogs or cats then, it may be different...

Gita

Two men in different continents at the same time were making history. Both were influenced by Bhagvad Gita and chose different ways to fight against the evil: J. Robert Oppenheimer and Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi chose the way of non-cooperation against the powerful forces of British whereas Oppenheimer thought destruction of atomic bombs can be used to control the enemies of humanity. Both were equally rignt and wrong. Gandhi's message of peace became the symbol of India's complacency and Oppenheimer's power message became the US's arrogance.

Survival Syndrome

Last night, I met with a veteran friend of my husband. He survived Vietnam War. He got one shot and lost friends but survived. He got the opportunities to visit Vietnam Memorial in past, were never able to gather enough strength to read his martyr comrades’ names on wall. Yesterday he did. He was on a business travel to D.C., before coming here, he spent hours with psychiatrist, but still he was not sure that he would make it. He hired a taxi to travel D.C. He went to memorial but was not able to leave the taxi. The taxi driver told him, “Whatever will happen, let it happen, Sir”. Finally he visited the memorial and read the names of his 19 friends who lost their lives in war. He cried like a baby there..

One of my husband’s colleagues is a native of Vietnam, who came to this country during Vietnam War. He never went back to his country. But he never felt comfortable in talking about the war. Even talks filled him with vicious feelings of the sufferings of his friends, relatives and people of his ‘country of birth’.

Two people came from same situation and had same emotions for being belonged to two different sides of the war. Psychologically, both are suffering from same syndrome ‘Survival Syndrome’. Probably every person suffers from this syndrome up to some extent. The news of terror attack on my country filled me with anger and disgust. I am relatively safer here, but most of people use the public transportation and go to crowded places for their livings. Every act of pushing back the fair sex makes me feel like someone is questioning my capability. Pictures of poor, weak and naked children realize the small gap between them and others.

Slumdog Millionaire

Grand success of Slumdog Millionaire proves that there are many people interested in Indian day to day life all around the world. However, many in India told that this movie is typical western vision of poor India. That is a typical Indian mindset what encourages to overlook the truth and live in flimsy world. The Bollywood (Indian film industry) movies show everything far from reality though the trend is little changed recently and some creative persons are coming in the industry. But the creative movies are still not widely appreciated, probably Indian people love only formula not substance. In Hollywood every year many movies related on Jews killings, gay rights and racial differences are released. But in India producers want to exploit only actresses’ bodies and jumping jack type stunt scenes. There are many tragedies and stories of hope happening in India every day. Why can't Indian movies project these sentiments to broad public? If projected in right way, I am sure stories of south can be sold in north and west in east and vice versa. Ultimately we are the world's most diverse and migrated people and each among us carries his or her unique story.

Indian Media

Anglophile Indian media always seek grace in cramming Oxford Dictionary and doing mastery on accent. Probably it makes easier for the reporters to switch to outsourced jobs, if they will be out of work. Like our government, it goes far to appease minorities. We listen frequently, attack on one person of minority but there is no one to report 1000s of similar crimes happening every day in India. No wonder Indian media has no status at International level. Chinese reporting is far superior than Indian, regardless of language hurdle. Not a single report from Indian media is shown after Mumbai terror attacks about any progress made by Indian Government (If they did!!) on CNN in US. Contrary, Pakistani journalists are worthy enough to talk about the lack of support from Indian Government and innocence of Pakistani Government.

I saw Karan Thapar’s episode with Shabana Azmi recently on Youtube. This guy called Shabana to discuss about her prospective on India’s progress on 60th anniversary of Indian Independence Day. The lady had not a single word to praise about India, all the time she made fuss about Muslim rights. Without any obligation to obey Indian Constitution, what else do Muslims want?

Qualification not Dress

Many time Michelle Obama's dresses and style are discussed in media. Instead of her education and devotion to family, her dresses are influencing the journalists. For any educated woman, who spent years in libraries not in beauty parlor it is insult.

Obama's Gitmo Policy

In long term, definitely Obama's policy of closing Guantanamo is great. But in current scenario, the prisoners with no proven guilty will be returned back to their countries of origin. Proving guilty is a tough task when it involves different nations. Especially Middle East and South Asian countries are highly dense populated and lack proper record keeping system. These countries have inflow of legal and illegal seasonal workers from neighboring countries. Some governments bear the international pressure but save home grown terrorists. The evicted prisoners will tell their stories of torture in these nations and local languages. This will further enhance the feeling of anti-west among fanatic and illiterate people.

Also, it is hard to convince religious fanatics through talks. Islamic terrorists are convinced that what they are doing is pious and according to the teachings of Quran. I am also not clear how to handle such people. Last year, in Texas hundreds of women and kids were taken out of FLDS church. Recently on CNN news, it was shown that all of them rejoin the family at same compound.

Reply to Miliband

To U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who recently advised India on the matter of Kashmir:

To milibandd@parliament.uk

Hi Miliband
You declared Kashmir problem behind India and Pakistan spoilt relation. But what is wrong in U.K. that 48% of Muslim population wants ‘Shariya rule’. We observed some terrorist attacks on U.K. soil too, so can you explain that??

Muslims are growing fast in every state of India. Every year millions of Bangladeshi crossed Indian border during the Monsoon. So should India give West Bengal also to Pakistan or create some more part of India to sow the future seeds of terrorism. Please acknowledge yourself about Indian history.

Thanks
A citizen of democratic country without a 'fake stamp'

Launch of a Gandhi

Recently, Minister of External Affairs Pranab Mukharjee declared Rahul Gandhi’s candidacy as next Prime Minister of India. Amid the terrorism threats, global recession and warming, the launch of Rahul Gandhi’s career is the foremost important matter for ruling Congress party. The controversies of this new Indian Prince vary from false claims of graduation from top US universities to crediting Bangladesh creation to his family.

In West, most of people confuse this family to be related to Mahatma Gandhi, though unlike Mahatma, Nehru-Gandhi legacy has only one agenda - ruling on country by all the means. Historically, launching of any Gandhi’s career is a painful experience of India. Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru launched his career of Prime minister on the creation of Pakistan and Hindu- Muslim riots in 1947. Millions of people died and displaced, but Nehru got what he desired. Later signing Article 370 with the King of Kashmir is another disaster, country is still paying for. It is irony that Nehru, himself a Kashmiri Brahmin, caused the killings and departure of millions of Kashmiri Hindus.

Indira Gandhi went one step ahead of her father. After the failure of her marriage with Feroze, she concentrated only on playing political games. At least, ambitious Nehru had a vision of India and he worked for establishing IITs and SAARC, a group of countries in Indian subcontinent since he recognized the possible dangers of helping one side on other during cold war. But Indira bargained with everyone to achieve the title of first female Prime Minister of India. The death of her political opponent Lal Bahadur Shastri, then leader of Congress party and Prime Minister, in USSR strengthened her relations with USSR. Communism movements and parties in India established. To get the support of Tamil political parties she allowed them to help separatist Tamil movement in Sri Lanka. The exploitation of democracy was not only limited in the hands of Indira Gandhi, but also enjoyed by her son Sanjay and front liners of Congress party. Her political games in Punjab set the path for launch of her son Rajiv’s career and another shame on Indian history.

The arrival of Rajiv in Indian politics is opened with the blood of Hindus and Sikhs. 1984 riots were the creation of Congress politicians (Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar and H.K.L. Bhagat) who cannot think beyond Gandhi family. The richest state of India suffered a lot economically and socially, in next ten years of terrorist attacks on Hindus. Sikh religion was established by Guru Gobind Singh to protect Hindus from the forceful conversion to Islam. But after 1984, the situation was exploited by Pakistani terrorist groups and ISI to threaten the Hindus once again. Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership skills were further restricted. He maintained his right to rule country by ignoring the rising of corruption and encouraging different ‘constitution’ for Muslims (Shahbano case).

Though Sonia Gandhi, wife of Rajiv is not able to achieve the right of ruling on country because of her foreign origin, she got the exclusive rights to decide the future of Congress and India indirectly. Her candidacy for the post of Prime Minister suffered the opposition within Congress and from other parties. Apparently Sonia Gandhi’s next move is to secure the position for her son who suffered serious failures in his education and serious career. Political career for Gandhi family comes natural and without any effort, since Indians are being told from last 60 years that India’s freedom is possible only with the last name of ‘Gandhi’. Recent communal dispute among Hindus and Christians from Congress ruled Orissa led Supreme Court to remind state government about its fundamental duty of protecting citizens. But if Congress party has ever followed that, millions of Indian lives could have been saved. Orissa state government has no interest in either stopping the conflicts or encouraging the economical growth of state. Rahul’s comments such as “If anyone from the Gandhi-Nehru family had been active in politics then, the Babri Masjid would not have fallen" indicates another foul play of Gandhi family to launch a new ‘King of India’.

Religious Harmony

The discussion on headgears turn interesting when some people agree that there should be no religion- an incredible and justifying solution, though far away from reality. And also why only to blame religion- don’t we differentiate each other on the basis of color, gender, economic class, countries, continents and many more. The problem is human greed and lust of power- a tribal manifestation of kill and die, what makes us to think only from one aspect. We tend to think if A is not B, either A is superior to B or vice versa.

Most of Indian religions (Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism) started as spiritual movements and address the social issues in those times. Though I am Hindu, but not sure how this oldest civilization or religion started? Some of us are book followers (Veda, Gita, Upanishads and Ramayana), some love chanting and some are happy with rituals. Different people offer different theories of Indigenous Aryans or invader Aryans or existence of Aryans. I seriously doubt that Hinduism has anything to do with Aryans manipulation. Both groups South Indians (Dravidians) and North Indians worship same Gods and chant Mantras written in Sanskrit. Buddhism and Jainism revised the concepts of ‘Karma’ and meditation of Gita, above than rituals. With his command on both sword and spirituality, Guru Gobind Singh gave Sikhism a new identity while saving Hindus against forceful conversion to Islam during the rule of Aurangzeb. All of these religions rely on the spirituality of the soul or self, exist in everyone and achievable by everyone.

Think about all the existing religions from the year of origin to next five thousand years (Though I doubt, we will survive so long if we continue in the same ways). Which religion is or will be free from the taboo rituals and internal divisions? People attach feelings with the book covers, idols, places or dress codes instead of the essence and tend to forget wisdom of saints and charismatic figures.

Public Safety and Liberty

Some people have raised questions regarding headdress or religious symbols in different reports. The controversy started from Georgia when allegedly a Muslim woman were not allowed in court because she was wearing a scarf. Some reports mentioned that she refused to undergo proper checks, required to enter in court. Regardless of being judgemental here, my first and foremost concern here is public safety and liberty. Government is allowed to check any dress, behavior which is suspicious. Someday ago in Europe a female Taliban militant was caught who was traveling to Belgium. If authority there does not bother to see under the Burka, she might be left uncaught. I am an immigrant from India, the country claims itself secular. Why terrorist attacks are common here- since authorities hardly dare to mess up with the religious groups. Even if they try a little, echoes in parliament, riots on streets and damage of public property are common phenomena. In world's most densely populated country, population control measures can not be strongly advocated since some religions think it works against their Gods' wish. Which God feels happy to see hungry children? Neighboring nations try to split country again and again based on religions. Marriages and women freedom laws are applicable to only religions which like the constitution- yes 'like it or don't mind it'. Politicians do nothing but divide for votes. We simply can not afford such a mess here. Liberty of people can only last if people will behave in mature way. Liberty is not a gift but an award won through wars and freedom struggle. Rather than seeing themsleves as a religious entity we need to see ourselves as responsible global citizens- those follow the rules of coexistence and humanity.
